RavensOak

Description: This is a picture of the oak tree in my back garden. It is over 300 years old and I wanted to capture its majesty and permanance. I also have a pond and gazebo like structure in the garden which I have incorporated into the picture. The various animals have been developed from doodles whilst the name of the picture is because the tree sometime acts as a roost for ravens amongst other birds.
I wanted to have bold colours and the red earth adds some depth to the painting.
Year of creation: 2011
Materials: Acrylic on mdf base, with permanent pigment ink
Size excluding frame: 60cm x 60cm
Size including frame: 60cm x 60cm (I have been developing a bold edging idea much like the box canvases)

Waiting my life away

Waiting my Life Away

Description: This picture was developed one day while I was doodling away waiting for some software to instal on my PC. I had scribbled various angular shapes when suddenly the eyes and nose became apparent. From then on it was quite a simple exercise to create a face and hands. The computer and keyboard took a few attempts. Personally, I quite like the shirt and his hands. It has taken me off in a new direction and I have been doodling various people which I hope to combine in a social scene.
Year of creation: 2011
Materials: Acrylic on mdf base, with permanent pigment ink
Size excluding frame: 28cm x 35.5cm
Size including frame: 33cm x 41cm

Plaice on the Sand

Plaice on the Sand

Description: This is one of my early mosaics showing a Plaice on the sea bed. The texture of mosaic tiles, particularly the speckled brown tiles, lend themselves perfectly to fish. The plaice is set against a backdrop of the swirly sand which replicates their natural environment on the sea floor
I have a number of other fish mosaics in progress including a John Dory and mackerel. The challenge is trying to make the fish in themselves interesting beyond their natural colour and shape
Year of creation: 2005
Materials: Mosaic on mdf base
Size excluding frame: 66cm x 40cm
Size including frame : n/a
